Dr. Seuss is in the building...

We enjoyed learning about Dr. Seuss today. We read the famous "Cat in the Hat." We all made masks and we will be using them all week as we are exposed to many more of Dr. Seuss's works. Which one is your favorite?

Work on Chromebooks Has Begun

Today, the Salcito Dorito's were introduced to the Chromebook Cart that is new to Underhill this year. We were very excited to learn that the cart will be visiting our room on Monday afternoons from 1:00 - 2:00. We will be practicing signing on to the Chromebooks using our usernames and passwords. These unique usernames and passwords have been assigned by the district technology department and will remain the same from now through Grade 8. Ideally, each student will build an electronic portfolio of work in Google. They will be able to access this anywhere as it will be stored in the cloud. As your child grows and enters higher grades they will use more applications like Google Classroom. It all begins now. We will be working with two different apps for the month of March. They are SplashMath and Moby Max. Please feel free to ask your student about them. Here is a picture of the Chromebook cart and your children exploring the Chromebooks.

WMUR Meterologist Kevin Skarupa Visits the First Grade

What a treat we had this morning, when WMUR's meteorologist Kevin Skarupa came to visit the first grade to share his knowledge of weather and to tell us what it is like being a tv weather man.

We learned about different types of clouds (including his favorite= lenticular clouds). We also learned about all the tools he uses to complete his job like computers, maps, and weather instruments. We  learned all the secrets about the "bright green wall" that is behind him in the tv studio every day.

Our classes favorite thing we learned was that a rainbow is actually in the shape of a CIRCLE!

Be sure to catch him tomorrow on WMUR around 6:45 am when he will talk about visiting Underhill.  I can assure you that you will see some familiar faces smiling back at you! I will post a link to the video later on Friday if you miss it.

Hooray for Dr. Seuss!

Grade 1 March 2016

Hooray for Dr. Seuss!

The week we come back from vacation, children across America will be celebrating Dr. Seuss'     birthday. In honor of this literary great, we will join in the festivities by reading a Dr. Seuss book   each day and doing a related activity. At home you can help add to the excitement of this by having your child prepare for the stories we will be reading.

Monday, February 29th:

Wear red and white (stripes if you have them) while we read about The Cat in the Hat.

Tuesday, March 1st:

Bring in your favorite stuffed animal to hold while we imagine What Pet Should I Get ?

Wednesday, March 2nd:

Happy Birthday, Dr, Seuss! Get ready for Wacky Wednesday by dressing as crazy and mixed up as you can.

Thursday, March 3rd:

Wear clothes with lots of pockets and hide tiny treasures in them as we get ready to hear There's a Wocket in My Pocket .

Friday, March 4th:

Wear your favorite socks as we snuggle up to read Fox in Socks.

Happy Reading!

Valentine's Day Celebration

Thank you all for donating the decorating supplies for our Kind Comments Project. We had a great time working on these. Each student left with a life long treasure. Their Kind Comment Hearts made them feel extra special and they will have it for years to come!

We also enjoyed sorting, graphing and tasting conversation hearts. This was a tasty way to have fun and learn math at the same time!

OUR HEADS ARE UP IN THE CLOUDS

As we continue working on the Imagine It! Unit 5 - What's the Weather? we especially enjoyed making cloud formations and describing what we saw in the clouds. Some formations looked like people, places, and even animals.
